Okayyy, so this book came out about a month ago, and I feel that people might just be getting around to this, so I decided this would be the perfect time to write a review on it. If you didn't know already THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK IN THE YOUNG ELITES SERIES SO DO NOT READ THIS WITHOUT READING THE YOUNG ELITES FIRST. Just warning you so that I don't spoil you. Alright now onto my mess of a review...
Goodreads synopsis;
Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.
Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister flee Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: to strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.
But Adelina is no heroine. Her powers, fed only by fear and hate, have started to grow beyond her control. She does not trust her newfound Elite friends. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her former friends, Raffaele and the Dagger Society, want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?
Uhhh, okay. That synopsis has me intrigued and curious, but also running away in fear. I mean, this book was good, but it just wasn't great. If you hadn't gathered from the synopsis, she does go down a darker path, that is less likable. We start to loose the Adelina we used to love. We are introduced to more characters, and we do see a bit more of Violetta. I do love all the new characters, especially a certain one (his name starts with an M), but the new characters are all so dark (maybe not all, but a lot). Everyone we're surrounded by is so... dark. I know I'm overusing the word, but there's no other way to describe it. It's so depressing, and you kind of need a breath of fresh air. I really wish there were more happy characters in this book, just because it would be refreshing, but I think I'm okay with this cast, it's just heavy. I feel that I have to keep in mind that Adelina is a protagonist, so her wickedness makes sense, but throughout the whole book I want to smack her.
Okay, peoples. The names in this book. In TYE, the names were pretty cool (Windwalker? Pretty sick name), but the names were even cooler in this one. White Wolf. I'm forever in love with that name. The Rainmaker, what a cool one. And the cover is cover goals. EVERY COVER WANTS TO BE THAT COVER. I WANT TO BE THAT COVER. I love the wolf in the background with the stormy sea, it just looks so cool.
So going back to what I said before, about how Adelina is a protagonist, I want to say that I do love that. We're able to see a different way of thinking. I mean, I don't normally want to be in a protagonists head, because that's most likely very gruesome, but I think that Adelina's perspective is interesting and her voice is so unique. Lu crafts everything so beautifully, it's just really hard and different to read from a depressing point of view. Adelina already thinks the whole world is against her, so you can probably imagine how sad this book is. I feel horrible for Adelina because we are in her head most of the time, so we probably think of her as a protagonist because she's wanting to avenge herself. Obviously, in the TYE, Adelina was shunned by the Daggers, so her revenge makes sense, but I still have to keep in mind, that in this world, everyone is dangerous and cruel.
So that's all I have for today's post! I hope you enjoyed that review and decide to pick up these two books, they're totally worth it. All in all, I'd say this book was a success. See you all soon!
