Goodreads synopsis:
It's an unsettled summer for Sirena. Back in Texas, her family's splitting apart, but here in Rhode Island, at the cottage of her free-spirited aunt, it's a different world. There are long days at the beach and intriguing encounters with him. Pilot. He's the lifeguard with shamanic skills. He both saves her and makes her feel lost at sea. Sirena explores her obsession with Pilot and discovers his mysterious--almost magical--gifts.
The plot was predictable, which I loved.
Everything about this book is light- hearted and makes you feel warm inside. This is definitely a book dedicated to summer, but I'll probably read it year round, due to how cozy it makes me feel. I loved every character. They were solid and realistic. I definitely have a favorite, but I'll save that for later. First we're going to talk about Pilot, the hunky hunk of a hunk.
Pilot is literally your dream guy. First off he's fit, and almost always without a shirt, since he's a lifeguard, hence the title. The model on the cover is not the depiction I had of him in my head, but the model is not too shabby. Second, Pilot is sweet, if a little guarded. Haha, see what I just did? He does have a few juicy secrets, that I won't spoil for you, but he is a pretty amazing person. I just love Pilot so much, I think I'm more obsessed with him than Sirena. Probably not haha.
My favorite characters;
Now for some of the other characters. My favorite is Antonio, who is an old man. He is so unique from any other character I've ever experienced. He is from South America, and has such a beautiful history from his home. They way he talks to Sirena about it, with so much passion is refreshing. And he's and artist. The way his art is described makes me want all of his works. His attitude is so positive towards everyone, it's sort of contagious. Antonio's dog. HIS DOG!!!! Edna is such a loyal companion, it makes me want to cry. She sticks with Antonio through everything that happens throughout the book. I love their relationship.
Thanks for reading today's rather long post, I hope you enjoyed it despite that. This was so fun to write, and I would have written more, but it's a bit long already. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope you decide to pick up this book! Have a great day!
