Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman

Filled with rich history, a dash of fantasy, and lively adventure, Legacy of Kings is a story you won't want to miss.

This book is probably the first one in a while that has brought me out of this horrible reading slump that I've been battling. Everything about this story gave me such a sense of belonging, almost like I should have lived in a completely different era. Don't get me wrong, I love this century (kind of...) but I always feel as if I should've been born in a totally different century (okay, now that I'm reading this I sound so dumb lmao, but it's how I feel). I don't care much for the past times my peers seem to enjoy; I would rather spar with a knight, read a book, or worship the Greek Gods (a no-brainer). That's why I enjoyed this book so much; I felt more alive in a world I hardly know. That's also why I'm really inspired to do more research on this topic and Alexander the Great (and I'm also obsessed with history).

I really enjoyed all of the characters that Herman brought to life and fleshed out. I fell in love with Cynane and the fact that she was a strong, capable woman who could hold her own, and it's even better that this was a true part of the historical figure she was. I loved how she wasn't your typical princess for the time; she was way more badass. I'm still iffy about Zo (who's the dumbest biatch who ever lived) and Jacob who's a complete a-hole. But even then, I love that the characters made me feel something. Whether it was the character themselves or the actions they took, I found every perspective to be so intriguing that I actually couldn't put it down.

Can we just talk about the culture? I loved the element of mythology that was brought into this book, and I love it even more that this was a true part of their everyday society. I really found the way that every tree, stream, flower, and even animal was somehow magical or a part of some godly test. In the author's note she explains more about this and the way that they used to worship the gods.

Also, the magic. The magic was so enchanting and it made me feel so connected to what was going on. The way that the magic was described only added to the majesty of the book. I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to see how the characters develop and begin to discover how to use and control their magical abilities, which I have a feeling (and hope) will shape up to some intense combat scenes.

Before you all go, I highly recommend you read the author's note at the end of the book. You don't have to read the book to do this either. I think that reading the author's note will help enrich the story tenfold.

Thank you all so much for reading this lengthy and rambly review. I hope you all enjoyed reading it nonetheless and stick around! Until next time, see you later!
