The Winners Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Kestrel buys a slave. Arin is a mistake. Secrets are kept. In order to be able to be loyal to their people, they must betray each other...

Goodreads Synopsis;

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love...

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Everything about this book keeps you wanting to come back for more. I'll admit, there were some more boring parts than others, but this was definitely a book that impacted my life. Kestrel is a great book role model. She's such a strong character. She's clever, cunning, strong, confident, but can be vulnerable as well. Every time I get nervous before a speech or presentation, I'll remember Kestrel. In a strange way her character gives me confidence to ignore what others think of me. This book is a book I will re-read multiple times over and over. A NEW FAVORITE OF COURSE! I will forever love this book.

The cover. THE COVER. The color scheme. The pose. The dress. I. Want. The. Dress. I think that his is gorgeous cover, and so is the sequel (which I MUST OWN). I love how it looks like Kestrel is twirling, so the dress is in a circle around her feet, which looks amazing! I guess I should stop rambling about the cover, but come on. IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

Thank you all for reading today's post! I hope you decide to pick up this book! See you all on the blog soon!
