It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.
On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?
Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.
Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?
Kiss a stranger? Um...
Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane's list. Who knows what she’ll find?
Go skinny-dipping? Wait...what?
The beginning of the story starts off around the same time I started this book, which was my first day of summer. When we are first introduced to all of these characters, I immediately fell in love with all of them. Especially Sloane and Beckett. Beckett freaking thinks he's a ninja (same) and Sloane just seems so fun and adventurous.
When Dawn get's added to the mix, I feel like the cast is complete. I want these friends. Imagine all of the crazy shenanigans you would pull off and the exploits you could go on. I mean, who wouldn't want that?! The beginning is light hearted, intriguing, and gripping.
Towards the middle of the book, I realized I really identified with Emily. I'm pretty shy, not very outgoing and I sort of follow, not lead. So, this book has inspired me to change this and maybe step outside of my comfort zone. Anyways, this book and whole idea actually, had me creating a list of my own. I thought it was also pretty interesting seeing how Emily completed the list Sloane left for her. On a separate note, I thought that the little flashbacks (if you will) incorporated into this story add a lot to the dynamic of the story. It also gives a little more background information, plus it allows us to get to know Sloane a bit more, as her character is a bit of a mystery.
In the end, everything wraps up with a dramatic flare, that makes you want more, especially with Emily's amazing character development throughout the story. So, I guess you could say I really liked it. Overall, it was fun, fast- paced, and intriguing.
Overall, I really loved Morgan's writing style. She has such a gripping and imaginative way of writing. Every character in this book was just fantastic and it makes me want to have the most epic summer with these amazing people. Imagine, all of the cool, small town hangouts you'd go to. And the PLAYLISTS! They were such a nice touch to the story. I was actually pretty surprised that I recognized some of the songs on Frank's playlist (not Emily's. I don't listen to her type of music). If I didn't recognize the songs, I recognized almost all of the bands that were on his playlists. I can say that Frank definitely has a pretty good taste in music.
Altogether, I loved this book and I cannot wait to read some more of Ms. Matson's work.
