Real Recommendations 4; The Iron King

Since I haven't done one of these in a while, I thought I would write a continuation of my original feature, Real Recommendations!

Today I wanted to recommend The Iron King by Julie Kagawa:

my star rating; 4/5
goodreads average; 3.92/5

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil, no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

This book has one of my favorite tropes: a seemingly ordinary person finding out that they are a part of a magical world. For some reason, I LOVE this trope. It just might be the fact that I just love fantasy, so discovering a new world is naturally intriguing. Anyways, this book is such a lively adventure. The plot itself is a fast-paced ride that takes you on an unforgettable journey. This book distinguishes itself further from others as it incorporates some aspects from A Midsummer's Night Dream, such as characters and personality traits.

The world itself is so intricate. I love how it's not some magical, happy, go-lucky world; it's dark and twisted and sinister. There isn't too much world building in this book, but since it's the first in a series, it's a solid start.

I recently re-read this book and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it, even after its been so many years since I first read it. I forgot how wonderfully intricate this story and the world is, so I hope you all decide to pick this story up.

Thanks for reading today's post! I hope you all enjoyed it and decide to read this book.
